Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to connecting communities, NewsON created its Hurricane Matthew relief campaign to give viewers from across the country a voice in the relief efforts. The national campaign encouraged people to download the NewsON app to stay informed with crucial Hurricane Matthew updates throughout the storm. The company pledged to donate $1 per app download during their week of Hurricane Matthew coverage, up to $10,000. NewsON viewers were then polled on social media to determine the organization to receive the donation, with Habitat for Humanity gaining the most votes at 47% of the total.

“Although Hurricane Matthew has passed, the toughest part of rebuilding still lies ahead,” said Louis Gump, CEO of NewsON. “We were proud to provide live local coverage of the areas and people along the East Coast affected by Hurricane Matthew during this devastating storm. One of our top priorities is connecting people to their communities. We are honored to join many others in supporting Habitat for Humanity in their efforts to rebuild affected communities on behalf of our viewers.”

“Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity is so grateful for the generous support of the families who were devastated by the recent storm,” said Ruthie Dent, VP of Marketing and Special Events for Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity. “Hurricane Matthew tore through our Habitat village, leaving broken hearts and broken homes. With the help of local volunteers and community partners, this donation from NewsON will help us rebuild homes and restore hope. Thank you for being a champion for these families.”

Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in nearly 1,400 communities throughout the U.S. and in nearly 70 countries. Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing in Cumberland County to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

NewsON provides consumers with access to live and on-demand local newscasts as well as local news clips on mobile and connected TV devices. The free, ad-supported app features flexible navigation that encourages discovery, offering instant access to broadcast-quality video. It also enables users to search by market via an interactive map and for curated content linking coverage of breaking news events from multiple stations. NewsON is free to download with no login required on iOS, Android, Amazon tablets, and Roku TV.
